Let’s chat about what I’m doing right now. Reading. Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises to be exact.
To be fair, I’m not a big reader. It’s one area that I feel I need to improve upon and expand my horizons. So why not read some classics by the likes of Hemingway?
Let me give you a run-down of what I’ve read so far, It is the daily life of the main character Jake. 10 chapters in and there doesn’t really seem to be much of a plot, at least no more of a plot than in one’s personal life. But there is something amazing that Hemingway does, he describes everything. Almost to the point where I have a hard time reading because it’s too much. Yet, when I’m not reading, I’m thinking about what is going on and I feel like I have really been with the character. And much like my writing, Hemingway is very short and to the point. He doesn’t use a lot of big flowery descriptive words, he just does a lot of describing.
I can see why Hemingway is considered a great author, that said, I don’t know if I will be reading many more of his books. Between The Sun Also Rises and The Old Man and the Sea (which I read in high school) I think I may have had my fill of Hemingway.
I have very mixed emotions about this book, but I guess that is why I continue to read it.
